ST MARY’S BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL AND HIGER SECONDARY SCHOOL

It was Nidhirickal Mani Kathanar, the then vicar of the church started an English school in Kuravilangad recognizing the role of education in improving the living standards of the people. The classes were conducted at the ‘Padippura’ and concert hall in the beginning. Later when the presbytery was completed in 1902, the classes were shifted to it. A few years later, a property was bought for the school and the school was totally shifted from the presbytery when the buildings were completed. The School was raised to a High School in 1925.  The inaugural ceremony of the centenary of the School was inaugurated by the President of India and the alumnus of the school, H.E. Dr. K. R. Narayanan on 4 September 1993. He once again visited the school in the capacity as the President of India ion19 September 1997.  The school became a Higher Secondary in 1998.

ST MARY’S GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL

To provide education for girls only, a primary school was started under the leader ship of Re. Fr. Thomas Purackal in 1919 which gradually rose to a High school in 1949.The Golden jubilee of the School was celebrated in 2000.

Both these school render invaluable service to humanity by providing primary education to thousands of tender minds and leading them to the world of letters.

DEVA MATHA COLLEGE, KURAVILANGAD

It was the long cherished dream of Mani Kathanar to have a college acceptable to the Catholics also. The Vicar of Kuravilangad was one among the six Governing body members of St. Berchman’s college when it was begun in 1922. The dream of a higher education institute in Kuravilangad became a reality with the founding of Deva Matha College in 1964. The Great visionaries, H. E Mar Sebastian Vayalil, the then Bishop of the Diocese of Palai and Rev. Fr. Paul Alappattu, the then Vicar of St Mary’s Forane Church, Kuravilangad, who spearheaded the founding of college, had in their minds the glorious task of dispelling darkness and spreading the light of true wisdom all around. True to its vision and mission, the college which started in a humble way with 4 Pre Degree batches today has emerged as a knowledge hub and leading centre of academic excellence with12 Under Graduate programmes, 8 Post Graduate courses and 2 Research Departments. The college, re accredited with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC  and ISO 9000-2008 certificate is on its journey to achieving the much covetous recognition, The Centre with Potential for Excellence.

The college has produced a host of significant, renowned and scholarly alumni who work in different spheres of life.  The most prominent among them is H. E. Mar Jacob Murickan, the Auxiliary Bishop of Palai.
